Behind our sunglasses…

Gli occhiali da sole sono un semplice accessorio o molto di più? Indossarli ci fa sentire più sicuri, più disinvolti, ma sarà perché sul naso ne abbiamo un paio ambitissimo che tutti desiderano o perché li consideriamo una sorta di scudo elegante capace di coprire ciò che più ci rende vulnerabili? Se è vero che uno sguardo dice più di mille parole e che gli occhi sono lo specchio dell’anima, è anche vero che ci sono situazioni in cui è preferibile non parlare e non lasciare trasparire emozioni. Gli occhiali sono una piccola maschera, una sorta di arma segreta, un asso nella manica da usare quando ci occorre. Billy Elliott ha ragione quando dice che siamo elettricità…gli occhi un ottimo conduttore, le lenti un degno isolante e quando si lasciano gli occhi…ehm…i fili scoperti, il rischio di prendere la scossa è inevitabile! Ma penso anche che, a volte, questo stesso rischio valga la pena correrlo e mostrare cosa si nasconde dietro l’immagine convenzionale che vogliamo dare di noi stessi. A dispetto dei giudizi, le nostre debolezze sono le colonne più salde del nostro animo.

I think of sunglasses and I wonder: are they simply an accessory or much more? Wearing them makes us feel safe, comfortable but will it be because we are wearing a pair of exclusive and fashionable sunglasses or just because we see them as a sort of elegant shield able to cover our weaknesses? If it’s true that a look can say more than a thousand words and that eyes are the mirror of the soul, it’s also true that there are cases in which it’s much preferable not to talk and leave our feelings come out. And glasses are a mask, a secret weapon, a trick up your sleeve to use when you need it, aren’t they? Billy Elliott was right when he said that we are electricity…the eyes of a perfect conductor, the lens of an insulating agent and when you leave your eyes…well…an uncovered cable, the risk to have a shock is unavoidable! But I also believe that sometimes it’s worth running the risk and show what’s behind the conventional image we want to give….despite criticism and rings of fatigue, “our weaknesses, the most vulnerable sides of us, our fragilities are the strongest pillars of our soul.”
