Che far parte della malavita non è una cosa semplice da gestire, lo sanno tutti, ma la voglia di fare soldi facili, la curiosità e la presunzione di saper gestire affari tanto pericolosi, senza nessun intoppo, fanno leva anche sul protagonista del nuovo film di Ridley Scott, THE COUNSELOR. Solo chi non ha niente da perdere può permettersi un lusso tanto grande e questa “condizione necessaria” al nostro”procuratore” (Michael Fassbender) manca. E’ un avvocato di grande fama, perdutamente innamorato della sua fidanzata (Penélope Cruz), completamente estraneo a questo mondo…fino a che non decide di entrare in un giro di droga, forse per comprare il diamante della proposta di matrimonio o forse per una mai dichiarata difficoltà finanziaria che però ci si vuol far credere? Non pervenuto, ma un bel giorno “Il Procuratore” senza nome fissa un incontro con Reiner (Javier Bardem), già in affari con la super sexy Malkina (Cameron Diaz), che gli offre di prelevare un carico di 20 milioni di cocaina con l’aiuto di Westray (Brad Pitt). Pensate a qualcosa che va male e moltiplicatelo per 10, la partita di droga viene rubata, e come è vero che la fortuna è cieca e che la sfiga, invece, ci vede benissimo, il responsabile del furto è il figlio di una cliente dell’avvocato ancora in carcere. “Loro non credono alle coincidenze, ne hanno sentito parlare, ma non ne hanno mai vista una…” e in questi casi non esiste alcuna giuria a cui presentare un’arringa difensiva. Seppure sia un film lento nelle dinamiche, a suo vantaggio giocano gli ampi dialoghi e la grande interpretazione dei personaggi volti a far luce sulla cruda realtà di questo mondo senza scrupoli, in cui il denaro è l’unica cosa che conta. Una spettacolare e famelica Cameron Diaz, che ha degnamente rimpiazzato Angelina Jolie, a cui in precedenza era stata offerta la parte, capace di farci rabbrividire al solo pensiero di entrare in giochi tanto pericolosi, senza prima dimenticare di sedurci con una delle scene più hot del cinema, di cui si parlerà per tutti gli anni “a venire”.

Only those who have nothing to lose can afford such a great luxury and this “condicio sine qua non” is not a characteristic of our “attorney” (Michael Fassbender). He is a famous lawyer, crazy in love with his girlfriend (Penélope Cruz) and totally out from the underworld…until he decides to go in for a drug business, maybe to buy a diamond ring for his girlfriend or perhaps because a never declared financial trouble he’s into. Don’t know but one day the “Counselor” without a name has a meeting with Reiner (Javier Bardem), who is already doing business with the super-sexy Malkina (Cameron Diaz), and who offers him to collect 20 million dollars of cocaine with the help of Westray (Brad Pitt). Think of something going bad and multiply per ten, the drug is stolen and, because good luck is blind but bad luck clearly sees, the thief is the son of one of the lawyer’s customers who is still in prison. “They don’t believe in coincidences, they have heard about them but never seen one…” and in these circumstances, there’s no jury to convince. Even if the film is little bit slow, there are rich dialogues and the cast is so good in performing the cruelty of this under world for whom money is the only thing that matters. A spectacular and evil Cameron Diaz, who has replaced Angelina Jolie, to whom the role was offered, able to make us feel the fear of playing such a dangerous game and seducing with one of the “hottest” scenes of the cinema which will surely become a cult.
