In questi lunghi anni di prestigiosa carriera dovrebbe averlo intervistato chiunque, ma questa volta è toccato a qualcuno di speciale, qualcuno che fosse alla sua altezza, si insomma a uno…come lui! L’ultima trovata geniale di Karl è questa intervista in cui lo stesso da botta e risposta, forse c’era qualcosa che ancora non gli era stato chiesto, qualcosa di cui voleva parlare con piacere…e come non accontentarlo? Chi fa da sè fa per tre…o per due…ad ogni modo, ecco in dettaglio l’intervista perfetta: ( TRATTO LIBERAMENTE DA FACE TO FACE KARL LAGERFELD NET A PORTER ) I: eccoci qui finalmente, saremmo dovuti arrivare insieme e magari saremmo stati puntuali K: io sono sempre in ritardo perché sono paziente con chi c’è prima e sono paziente con chi viene dopo. Questo è il mio dramma, sono nato 3 settimane dopo di quando mia madre pensasse e non ho mai recuperato queste tre settimane… I: vorrei farti una domanda, vedo me stesso di fronte a me, ma vorrei che fossi tu a descrivere te stesso e poi io ti dirò se sei davvero così, tre parole sono sufficienti K: me stesso in tre parole? No..servono più di tre parole per questo, non è così semplice. Cosa posso dire? Per esempio che non sono mai completamente soddisfatto di me stesso. Se dovessi descrivermi ovviamente farei una descrizione molto lusinghiera, ma non sono sicuro che sarei credibile, inoltre, è più una questione di quello che pensano gli altri. Io non faccio descrizioni di me stesso, quello che sono è semplicemente ciò che si vede, non c’è nient’altro. I: come facciamo a rimanere sempre così attuali a competitivi, perché, se ti guardo, ti vedo sempre molto attuale e competitivo… K. è una domanda che non mi sono mai posto I: non ho idea se esista un segreto del tuo…nostro successo, forse tu riesci a spiegarlo meglio di me… K. non c’è alcun segreto, l’unico segreto è il lavoro e l’impegno costante, non ci sono segreti. Magari anche condurre una vita sana può aiutare: non bere, non fumare, non assumere droghe. Ma tutto dipende da quanto tu vuoi riuscire a fare quello che fai. Se tu credi che la tua vita privata sia più importante del tuo lavoro, allora potrebbe esserci qualche problema ma non bisogna lamentarsi, non pensare di essere vittime del sistema. Se qualcuno nel mondo della moda ritiene di essere una vittima del sistema, allora dovrebbe fare un altro lavoro. Se la pressione è troppa, semplicemente, fate qualcos’altro. I: cosa pensi della parola “musa” e noi abbiamo una… o più muse? K: odio questa parola perché ha qualcosa di non completamente piacevole. Mi piace essere circondato da donne che possano ispirarmi, ma la parola musa è estremamente limitativa, non possiamo dargli un solo nome perché la moda deve poter vestire tutti e quindi abbiamo bisogno di ogni tipo di musa. Posso ispirarmi a qualcuno per il suo modo di essere, il suo spirito, il suo approccio alla vita e alla moda ma mai e poi mai ai fanatici della moda, i fanatici della moda non sono credibili. I: il senso dell’umorismo è importante per noi? K: non so, per me è tutto naturale, tutto viene come viene, io non preparo mai niente, improvviso sempre, sono una persona totalmente improvvisata ma è un’improvvisazione molto professionale. I: Vorrei farti un’altra domanda, è una cosa che non ricordo e che magari anche tu hai dimenticato, ma quando la moda ti è apparsa come una possibilità concreta per il tuo futuro? K: non è stata una vera decisione o qualcosa che ho desiderato fare. Sono sempre stato molto interessato a ciò che le persone indossano, me compreso, ma quando sei un bambino non sai esattamente cosa sia la moda, la moda poi era qualcosa di completamente estraneo al mio mondo, al mio paese, specialmente a quel tempo, non come oggi con la TV e i media, la moda era qualcosa di riservato alle stars, alle celebrities, qualcosa di lontanissimo da me e dal mio mondo, poi le circostanze hanno fatto si che tutto sia accaduto. I: e dimmi, perché credi che net-a-porter sia così interessante oggi? K: perché oggi tutto ha a che fare con la tecnologia, tutto è cambiato in termini di comunicazione, di lavoro, di creazione. È la cosa più importante. Non mi piace parlare dei bei vecchi tempi, anche perché forse non erano per forza più belli semplicemente perché più vecchi. Credo oggi sia tutto molto eccitante, qualsiasi cosa che ancora non conosco, mi interessa di più di ciò che ho già visto e conosciuto nella mia vita. I: immaginiamo che io non abbia visto la collezione, puoi descrivermela? K: è molto difficile descrivere lo spirito di una collezione, soprattutto se ti riguarda e io non amo descrivere nemmeno me stesso. Credo semplicemente che la collezione rispecchi ciò che sento, la mia visione di Karl, io faccio tutto guidato dall’istinto, sono semplicemente me stesso. I: una domanda stupida, un luogo comune, ma che spesso fanno nelle interviste. Cosa può fare una donna per essere davvero chic? K: se qualcuno mi chiede come fare ad essere chic già vedo pochissime speranze che possa mai diventarlo. Ci sono contadine che vivono in campagna che vanno ben oltre essere chic nei loro poveri stracci, mentre ci sono donne ricche con abiti costosi che non sono affatto chic. Nel momento in cui ti fanno questa domanda, cercare di essere educati è l’unica risposta possibile ma il vero problema è un altro. I: una domanda che conoscendoti potrebbe essere piuttosto difficile, se dovessi scegliere soltanto un capo d’abbigliamento indispensabile, quale sceglieresti? K: dipende dalla persona, dalle fattezze, oggi credo sia più o meno la stessa cosa per un uomo o una donna, indossiamo camicie, t-shirt, jeans e giacche, sono davvero 3 pezzi basici ciò di cui abbiamo davvero bisogno, non esiste nemmeno più una vera distinzione di genere… non rispondo dicendo che ciò che serve è “un abito da cocktail” perché non ci sono più molti cocktail party che mi piacciono. I: questa è una domanda molto banale, cosa porteresti con te su un’isola deserta? Io preferirei non andare quindi per me non sarebbe un problema! K: beh..dipende dal clima, da dove si trova l’isola… I: ok, ho un’altra domanda, potrei rispondere anche io ma preferisco chiedere a te, quale è la tua idea di giorno perfetto? K: ogni giorno dovrebbe essere perfetto, sta a te fare in modo che un giorno diventi perfetto. Non c’è una regola, un giorno ha soltanto 24 ore e poi inizia il giorno successivo. Sei tu che devi rendere ogni giorno il più perfetto possibile, è soltanto una questione di volontà e disciplina. I: ti annoi facilmente? soprattutto adesso? K: che strana domanda… I: anche se ho aspettato tanto per incontrare me stesso, ora che possiamo farci? Anche questa volta non ci ha mostrato il suo sguardo, a quello ci ho pensato io, ma di fronte ad un carisma così “abbagliante” un paio di occhiali mi sembra il minimo!

Karl’s latest brainwave is an interview where he asks questions to himself, face to face, maybe there were still some questions for him left unanswered, or maybe he wanted to talk about something interesting to him… and why not to please him somehow? I was born 3 weeks later than my mother thought and I think these 3 weeks I have never got back I: I want to ask you a question, I have a vision of me in front of me but I would like you to describe you and I will tell you if you’re really that way, three words would be enough K: Myself in 3 words? No…I need more than three words for that, it’s not that simple. What could I say, firstly, I would have no opinion…I am never happy with myself, I would give you, of course a very flattering description but I’m not sure I will believe it, it’s more to make other people believe.I don’t deliver descriptions of my person, you have what you see, that’s all, there’s nothing behind. K: A question I never asked myself I: I have no idea if there’s a secret of your…our success, I have problems formulating it but maybe you are better than me with words K: it’s not a secret, the only secret is work, you have to get it together, there aren’t many secrets and perhaps a decent life: don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t take drugs, this can help. It depends on how much you want to do what you do. If you think that your life, whatever it is, is more important than your work, then maybe there’s a problem but don’t complain, don’t think you’re a victim of the system. I don’t believe in that at all. If somebody in this business thinks he’s a victim of the system, then he should be in another job. If the pressure is too big, then do something else. I: What do you think about the word muse and do we have a muse or muses? K: I hate this word because there’s something not really nice in this word. I like to be surrounded by girls who are inspiring but the word muse is very limited, then you cannot answer and give it one name because in fashion we have to dress everybody so we need all kind of muses, their attitude, their spirit, their approach to life and fashion… but they don’t have to be fashion freaks, fashion freaks are not to credit for. I: Is humour really important to us? K: All normal for me, I don’t say I do this I do that, it comes the way it comes: I never prepare anything, I always improvise, I am a totally improvised person but a very professional improvisation I: I want to ask you a question, you may have forgotten and I don’t remember … when did fashion appear in your mind as a possibility for the future? K: It’s not a decision or something I wanted to do. I have always been interested in what people wear, myself included, but as a child you don’t know …fashion was very far away, especially in those days, it’s not like today with all the TV, fashion was completely another world, something I don’t know..maybe in the stars.. .away from that world, especially away from my world as a child in the country. If you had to own one thing what should it be? Knowing your tastes this question may be a very difficult one. K: It depends on the body…well, today it’s the same thing for men and women who wear a shirt, jeans, jacket, there are three basic things that everybody needs and there’s not even any gender probably… Maybe I would need a cocktail dress…there aren’t so many cocktails I love anymore I: This is a very banal question, knowing you, so it’s more difficult to answer, what would you take with you on a desert island? I prefer not to go so that’s not my problem K: It depends on the climate, where the island is.. I: Ok, I have another question, I could answer myself but I prefer to ask you, what is your idea of a perfect day? K: Everyday should be perfect, it’s up to you to work and make the day perfect. A day only has 24 hours and how will be the next day? It’s up to you to make every day as perfect as possible, it’s a question of will and discipline. I: Are you easily bored? Especially now? K: What a strange question I: Even if I waited for a long time for myself, what can we do now?
