Stella Jean è una giovane stilista di origini haitiane che vive e lavora a Roma. La mamma, attrice, è una donna molto elegante e appassionata di moda, il padre, torinese, è un artista che disegna e crea gioielli, Stella ha un passato da modella… cinema, arte e moda sono da sempre presenti nella quotidianità della designer, che conquista il mondo fashion con un “buon senso dello stile” in cui brio, design e creatività si combinano. Se linee pulite e colori sobri rappresentano una sorta di “garanzia” nel panorama della moda italiana, Stella Jean certamente non si rispecchia in questo spirito moderato e convenzionale, ma la passione del sangue caraibico che scorre nelle sue vene si manifesta in un’audace voglia di sperimentare e di fondere due culture diverse che le appartengono; quella antica e sognatrice del vecchio continente e quella verve e moderna del nuovo… una fusione che si traduce stilisticamente in un mix “WAX & STRIPES”. Il WAX è una stoffa tipicamente africana che viene prodotta in Olanda, rappresenta il mondo africano “contaminato” dai colonizzatori europei che sono venuti in camicia…STRIPES. Ecco perché in ogni sua creazione sono presenti sia fantasie multicolor che fantasie millerighe, testimonial di due mondi lontanissimi tra loro; l’esplosione di colori viene “mediata” dalla presenza della camicia da uomo, che ha un’assoluta portabilità e i tagli si addicono a look da giorno e da sera. I suoi abiti saltano il passaggio del disegno ” avendo il corpo tre dimensioni, non ci si può affidare alla carta” e non sono realizzati in serie, ma creati da una filiera artigianale specializzata. Stella Jean ha sfilato ad ALTAROMA il 31 gennaio con una collezione che si ispira al bon ton anni ’60, lane lavorate in punto maglia di tradizione italiana, colori checks scozzesi e tartan di cappotti oversize con gonne Wax tempestate di pietre… che diventano anche “protagonisti” di MADELEINE, un cortometraggio proiettato in supporto alla sfilata, girato all’interno del lussuoso hotel DE RUSSIE di Roma, che si ispira a “VERTIGO- la donna che visse due volte” di Alfred Hitchcock e che tra gli interpreti vanta la presenza dell’attore francese Ivan Franek. .

If minimal shapes and colours represent a “guarantee” in the Italian fashion scenario, Stella Jean surely does not identify with this moderate and conventional spirit since her Caribbean blood becomes manifest in an audacious will of experimenting and merging the two completely different cultures she belongs to, the ancient and dreamy European soul with the modern verve of the new world… A fusion that translates into a “WAX & STRIPES” mix. WAX is an African fabric that is produced in the Netherlands, it represents the African world “contaminated” by European settlers in their “STRIPES” shirts. That’s why her creations are characterised by multi-coloured and striped patterns, bearing witness to two distinct and far countries; the colour explosion is balanced by man-style shirts for day and night outfits. Her dresses are absolutely unique, entirely hand-made with an artisanal flair. Stella Jean’s show at ALTAROMA on January 31 was a collection inspired by the “bon ton” style of the 60s, Italian tricots, Scottish checks and tartans, oversize coats with Wax skirts filled with precious stones… that also became the protagonists of “MADELEINE”, a short movie showed during the runway, filmed at the luxury Hotel de Russie in Rome, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo and starred by the French actor Ivan Franek.
