Sean Penn torna a regalarci emozioni con il nuovo film “This must be the place”, che porta il titolo di una canzone dei Talking Heads, diretto da Paolo Sorrentino. Cheyenne, il protagonista, è una ex rock star con una somiglianza impressionante a Robert Smith, il cantante dei Cure, vive lontano dai riflettori per una sorta di paura mescolata a insicurezza, che tante volte lo porta a confondere la depressione con la semplice noia, ma la sua vita rimane “da palcoscenico”, in cui lui è l’unica attrattiva… niente pubblico, nessun evento mondano, nessun fan, solo la sua bellissima casa in cui vive con l’amatissima moglie, con la quale si diverte a giocare a pelota, seppur perda sempre, fatta eccezione nei casi in cui lei lo lascia vincere per farlo sentire “un maschione”. Dopo trent’anni di silenzi con il padre, viene informato che quest’ultimo sta per morire di vecchiaia, “una malattia che non esiste” e il dovere di vederlo un’ultima volta lo conduce in un viaggio da Dublino a New York. A causa della sua paura di volare, sarà una nave a portarlo a destinazione e purtroppo in ritardo per l’estremo saluto, ma non così in ritardo per scoprire cosa ha tenuto impegnato il padre in questi 30 anni: cercare l’aguzzino nazista che lo ha perseguitato durante la sua permanenza nel lager. Cheyenne cosa farà adesso? Non vi resta che scoprirlo, ma sappiate che pur essendo un uomo di poche parole, ciò che dirà sarà certamente una perla di saggezza, Sappiate che è un eterno bambino che non fuma e che quando fa i dispetti confessa di averli fatti apposta. Sappiate che di certezze non ne ha molte, che conosce l’olocausto “in modo molto generico”, ma che al contrario, conosce il segreto infallibile della tenuta del rossetto: “non importa di che marca sia, ciò che conta è mettere un velo di cipria prima di stenderlo”. Sappiate che anche se non conosce cosa lo ha disturbato, sa per certo che qualcosa lo ha disturbato. Sappiate che il tempo gioca un ruolo importante in questo film…perché passa troppo velocemente e che basta un attimo per passare dalla condizione “farò così” a quella “è andata così” e sappiate che quel suo soffiare verso l’alto per scansare il ciuffo corvino dal viso, in segno di noia, non potrà che conquistarvi!

After thirty years of silence with his father, he is informed that he’s dying of old age, “a disease that doesn’t exist”, and he wants to see him for a last time, so he leaves for a journey from Dublin to New York. Because of his fear of flying, he will travel by boat; unfortunately, he will arrive too late for a last farewell, but not so late to find what has kept his father busy for all these thirty years, to hunt the torturer who has persecuted him during his stay in the Nazi camp. What will happen now? There is nothing left for you to do but find it out. But you must know that Cheyenne doesn’t speak a lot, and, when he speaks, he always says pearls of wisdom. You must know that he is an eternal child, he doesn’t smoke and when he spites someone, he confesses to have done it on purpose. You must know that he hasn’t got so many certainties, he knows the Holocaust “in a very generalway”, but, on the contrary, he knows the infallible secret of lipstick: “No matter what is the brand, it’s important to put a thin layer of powder before to spread it” You must know that, even though he doesn’t know what has disturbed him, he perfectly knows that something has disturbed him. You must know that time plays an important role in this film…because it goes by too quickly, and that it takes a moment to switch from the condition “I’ll do that way” to “that’s the way it went”. And you must know that his blowing on his forelock to uncover his face as a sign of boredom will certainly win over you!
