More than words...Emoticon :-)

Potrei partire dalla genesi, da quando i telefoni non c’erano e si parlava a voce, si faceva amicizia di persona e se proprio era difficile raggiungere qualcuno, si prendeva carta e penna e si scriveva una bella lettera…ma vi e mi evito la sofferenza, arrivando dritto al punto! Da quando il buon Dio ci ha messo in mano l’iPhone, purtroppo o per fortuna, tutto è cambiato! Nel 2014, se hai bisogno di qualcuno mica lo chiami, gli mandi un messaggio e non perché fai prima, ma perché, al giorno d’oggi, lo slogan “una telefonata salva la vita” si è completamente capovolto…una telefonata potrebbe ucciderti! Se sei tu a doverla fare e la persona in questione non ti risponde e non ti richiama, di default t’incazzi, così, per toglierti dall’imbarazzo, gli scrivi su Skype, su Facebook, su Twitter, gli mandi una mail oppure un messaggio, ma non la chiami! Se invece la telefonata la devi ricevere, è quasi matematico che se l’aspetti non arriva e se arriva è sempre quella che non ti aspetti e alla quale non vuoi/puoi rispondere. Le compagnie telefoniche, che credi che vogliano sempre fregarti, in realtà ne sanno un sacco di vita sociale e ti offrono sempre dei pacchetti speciali, in cui la voce “SMS illimitati” ti fa venire gli occhi a cuore! Occhi a cuore? Ma si…chiamali smile, faccine o Emoticon, ma sai quanto tempo e quante parole ti fa risparmiare mettere un emoticon in un messaggio?!? Tantissimo!!! E’ passato il tempo in cui Demi Moore impazziva perché Patrick Swayze non le diceva “ti amo” e lui rispondeva solo “IDEM”, se Ghost fosse girato oggi, lui le invierebbe un messaggio con cento cuori colorati, mazzi di fiori, baci e lei se lo sarebbe fatto bastare…altro che moneta da un penny sotto la porta! L’Emoticon è un surrogato di emozioni, l’evoluzione del messaggio scritto e il regresso della comunicazione verbale…ma dalla vita mica puoi avere tutto, no ;-)?!?

I could start from the genesis, from the time when there were no phones and live voice only was used to talk, when people met personally and when trying to reach someone became a hard task, paper and pen could only help writing a letter…but I will save you a lot of hassles by getting straight to the point! Since our mighty Lord handed us the iPhone, fortunately or unfortunately, everything has changed! In 2014, if you need to talk to someone, you won’t call, you’ll send a message, not because it’s quicker but because, nowadays, the slogan “a telephone call may save your life” is a total phrop…it may actually kill you! If it’s you calling and the person you are trying to reach doesn’t answer or doesn’t call you back, you get mad ‘by default’ and to spare yourself such an embarrassment, you try to contact the person via Skype, FB, TW, you send the person an email message…anything but a call! If it’s you receiving the call and you are expecting it, it’s almost mathematical you won’t receive it: the incoming call is always the one you didn’t wish for and that you don’t want to and/or can’t answer to. The phone companies ripping you off (you might think), know in fact a lot about social life and constantly offer you special deals where at the sight of the item “endless TEXT messages” your eyes turn into hearts! Heart shaped eyes? Well yeah…you can call them smiles, crazy faces or Emoticon, have you ever thought of how much time and how many words you could spare by using emoticons in your texts?!? Quite a lot!!! The time when Demi Moore went crazy because Patrick Swayze wouldn’t tell her “I love you” and he only replied “DITTO” has gone by, if Ghost were to be re-shot today, your man would send her a message with a hundred colorful hearts, bunches of flowers, kisses…and she would have enough…anything but pushing a penny coin underneath the front door! Emoticon is a surrogate for emotions, the evolution of text messages and the regression of verbal communication…you can’t have it both ways ;-)?!?
